Millennium Development Goals and Austrian Development Cooperation
In September 2000 all UN member countries agreed on eight development
goals – now known as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) – aimed
at safeguarding our common future and ensuring sustainable world
development. Rich and poor countries alike committed themselves to
making every effort to eradicate extreme poverty, promote dignity and gender
equality and to achieve peace, democracy and ecological cooperation. For
the first time, the heads of states and governments have made a firm commitment
to clearly defined goals, with a time schedule up to 2015.
www.8goals4future.at is
an educational portal where students and teachers can learn more about
the Millennium Development Goals and the Austrian Development Cooperation.
The substance of the millennium goals is showcased by means of projects of
the development work conducted by the Austrian Development Cooperation and
Cooperation with Eastern Europe (ADC) in its partner countries. Started in
the school year of 2004/05 8goals4future provides an extensive array of information
and materials on the MDGs and ADC. The focus is on country modules and
examples of projects.
